pluralism NOUN 1) a political system of power-sharing among a number of political parties. 2) the existence or toleration of a diversity of ethnic groups or differing cultures and views within a society. 3) Philosophy a theory or system that recognizes more than one ultimate principle. 4) the holding of more than one ecclesiastical office or position at the same time by one person.
